LOOK BACK TO 2017 MELBOURNE FIJI DAY - INFORMATION TO MEMBERS

This year 2018, we selected the City of Melton as our venue for the Melbourne Fiji Day Multi-Cultural Festival due mainly to there generosity in awarding us the highest grant to celebrate our rich culture and sharing it with other communities. The Lord Mayor of the City of Melton was therefore invited as our Chief Guest.

The venue, Melton Recreation Reserve presented a different environment from every other venues that we have used. It was a big park with open spaces and lots of trees providing shades with kids parks, toilet facilities, drinking tap water fountains and ample parking spaces for everyone. The selection of this venue supported our objective in keeping the Festival to more of a Family event where all families would come together and enjoy the celebration.

Last year, we celebrated Fiji Day at the Gaelic Park in Keysborough, a venue that falls within the City of Dandenong. This time, the City of Dandenong provided us grants to help us celebrate and hence the reason why we picked Gaelic Park and invited the Mayor of Dandenong as our Chief Guest. Gaelic Park was a great venue too with lots of spaces and cark parks available. They provided great facilities like the big Hall with kitchen, toilets, bathroom facilities and a full sized rugby and soccer ground.

We are blessed to have these facilities provided to us by different communities who are proud owners of these properties.
It is therefore our duty as Community members to always look after these properties and see that they are presented back to them the way it was given to us after our events.
The Fijian Community Association Victoria is trying it's best to transform our community by inspiring everyone to open our minds, accept differences in the community, achieve our full human potential and earn a reputation as a welcoming, caring, united and respectful community.

Last year, there were damages in a broken glass door and two side glass panels at the Gaelic Park created by some of our Youths. The damages was repaired and paid in full to the owners in less than a week. Our committee regretted what happened and the President met with the Manager at Gaelic Park to address the issue and presented her gifts as a token of appreciation to the use of their facility.

As a Community group that cared for it's members and especially our youths, we did not report this matter to the police but we did round them up and spoke to them about what our vision is for them and their future. We worked with them and ensured that they give something back to the community. They participated in doing a "Lovo pack" fundraising during Easter raising more than the damage bills paid to Gaelic Park.

Today, some of these youths are now committed family men raising their young families, two have moved to Sydney to start a new life while the rest have learned to respect our Community and the events that we run. This year, the 2018 Fiji Day celebration was the best celebrated with no damage bills incurred and everyone were in celebration mood.

VINAKA VAKALEVU FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT......GOD BLESS OUR LOVING COMMUNITY.
